About Ovulation Calculator

Our ovulation calculator estimates your most fertile days based on your last menstrual period and average cycle length, helping you plan or avoid pregnancy naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fertile window is the approximately 6-day period when pregnancy is possible: the 5 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. Sperm can survive 3-5 days in the reproductive tract; an egg survives 12-24 hours after release.
In a 28-day cycle, ovulation typically occurs around day 14. For other cycle lengths, ovulation typically occurs 14 days BEFORE the next expected period (not 14 days after the period starts). Calculate: Ovulation Day ≈ Cycle Length − 14.
Calendar-based ovulation calculators assume regular cycles. Actual ovulation can vary each month due to stress, illness, diet changes, and other factors. For higher accuracy, combine calendar tracking with BBT charting, cervical mucus monitoring, or ovulation predictor kits (OPKs).
LH (luteinizing hormone) surges 24-48 hours before ovulation. Ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) detect this surge in urine. A positive OPK means ovulation is likely in the next 12-36 hours — this is the optimal time to conceive.
BBT is your lowest body temperature at rest, measured immediately after waking. It rises 0.2–0.5°C after ovulation and stays elevated until your next period. Tracking BBT over several months helps identify your ovulation pattern.
It's very unlikely but not impossible. Pregnancy requires a sperm to fertilize an egg within 12-24 hours of ovulation. Since sperm can survive up to 5 days, having intercourse up to 5 days before ovulation can result in pregnancy.
Irregular cycles make calendar-based ovulation prediction less reliable. Track your shortest cycle length and subtract 18 days to find the earliest possible fertile day. Use OPKs or BBT charting for better accuracy with irregular cycles.
