Calculating your exact age seems simple but has some interesting nuances — especially around leap year birthdays and month boundaries.

The standard algorithm: compare today's date to your birth date. Start with the year difference, then check if the birthday has occurred this year. If today is before your birthday month/day combination, subtract 1 from the year count.

Age in Years, Months, and Days

For example: Born January 15, 1995 → Today March 20, 2025

1. Years: 2025 − 1995 = 30, but Jan 15 has passed in 2025 ✓ → 30 years
2. Months since last birthday (Jan 15, 2025 → Mar 20, 2025): January is month 1, March is month 3 → 3 − 1 = 2, plus 20 − 15 = 5 days → 2 months, 5 days
3. Total: 30 years, 2 months, 5 days

Leap Year Birthdays (February 29)

People born on February 29 only have a "true" birthday every 4 years. In non-leap years:

• Legal age in most countries: birthday is considered March 1
• Some use February 28
