About Paint & Tile Calculator

Our paint and tile calculator helps homeowners and contractors estimate materials needed for home renovation projects. Enter room dimensions and account for doors and windows for accurate estimates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Calculate total wall area (height × width for each wall), subtract doors and windows, divide by the paint's coverage rate (typically 10-12 m²/liter for one coat), then multiply by number of coats. Add 10% for wastage.
Calculate total floor/wall area. Divide by the area of one tile. Add 10-15% for cuts, breakage, and wastage (more for complex patterns or diagonal layouts). Always buy extra from the same batch for color consistency.
Emulsion paint (interior): 10-12 m² per liter per coat. Exterior paint: 8-10 m² per liter per coat. Primer: 8-10 m²/liter. Textured paint: 4-6 m²/liter. Manufacturer specifications vary — always check the product datasheet.
Diagonal layouts require 15-20% more tiles due to additional cuts at the edges. Calculate area normally, then multiply by 1.15-1.20. The more complex the pattern (herringbone, etc.), the more wastage you should account for.
Larger tiles (60×60 cm or bigger) can make a small room appear larger because there are fewer grout lines. Smaller tiles (30×30 cm) are better for curved surfaces and complex patterns. Match tile scale to room scale for best aesthetic results.
Typically: 1 coat primer + 2 coats finish paint. On dark walls, 3 coats of finish paint may be needed for complete coverage. High-quality paints offer better coverage in fewer coats. Proper surface preparation reduces coats needed.
Subtract each door area (typically 1.8m × 0.9m = 1.62 m²) and window area (typical 1.2m × 1.0m = 1.2 m²) from your total wall area. Some painters skip this deduction to account for wastage, extra coats, and touch-ups.
